Robert Malley: The U.S. Aims to Maintain Connection with the People of Iran

Robert Malley: The United States seeks to maintain communication with the people of Iran

Robert Malley, the U.S. Special Envoy for Iran, described WhatsApp’s unveiling of a proxy for Iranian users as a clever move to help them maintain their connection with the world.

Malley wrote that American companies are finding clever ways to assist the people of Iran so that Iranians can keep their communication channels with the outside world open despite the relentless censorship ordered by the leader of the Islamic Republic.

Democratic Senator Bob Menendez also reacted to the addition of proxy capability in the WhatsApp messenger, stating that WhatsApp’s important effort to secure user access to the internet in the face of censorship and shutdowns is a powerful display of solidarity, showing that we stand with the protesters in Iran.
