Robert Malley: America aims to maintain connection with the people of Iran
Robert Malley, the U.S. Special Envoy for Iran, described WhatsApp’s launch of a proxy for Iranian users as a clever move to maintain their connection with the world.
Malley wrote that American companies are finding clever ways to help the people of Iran so that Iranians can keep communication channels open with the outside world despite the relentless censorship ordered by the leader of the Islamic Republic.
Senator Bob Menendez, a Democrat, also reacted to the addition of proxy usage capabilities in the WhatsApp messenger, stating that WhatsApp’s important effort to secure users’ access to the internet in the face of censorship and blackouts is a powerful display of solidarity, showing that we stand with the protesters in Iran.
