Rubio: Even if a nuclear agreement is reached, non-nuclear sanctions on Iran will not be lifted
Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, stated on Tuesday at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that the current negotiations between Tehran and Washington are focused on enrichment. He mentioned that if issues such as support for terrorism and the missile program are not part of the agreement, the related sanctions will remain in place.
Rubio said that Washington is trying to reach an agreement with Tehran under which the Islamic Republic of Iran can have a peaceful nuclear program, but not uranium enrichment.
He added that reaching such an agreement will not be easy.
The U.S. Secretary of State mentioned that the government is offering an alternative path to Iran so that the country can move towards prosperity and peace.
Rubio added that this will not be an easy task, but this is the path we are currently on.
