Russia: Diluting Iran’s uranium within its own territory is a practical option
Mikhail Ulyanov, Russia’s representative to international organizations in Vienna, said that diluting Iran’s uranium within the country’s own territory is a completely practical option, but its implementation requires the consent of Tehran and Washington.
In an interview with RIA Novosti, Ulyanov stated that it is still unclear to what extent this option has been discussed in the Islamabad memorandum. He referred to the U.S. request from Congress for $672 million to transfer nuclear materials from Iran to the U.S., and said that this matter does not fully align with the option of diluting within Iran’s territory and will likely become clearer in negotiations.
He also mentioned that it is unlikely that inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency will be present in Iran soon, but assuming the success of the diplomatic path, inspections must eventually resume sooner or later.
According to Ulyanov, Iran might consider the issue of resuming inspections alongside other parts of the final agreement with the U.S., an agreement that is set to be negotiated within the next two months.
