Russia fired two hypersonic missiles in the Sea of Japan

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that as part of a military exercise, two missile-carrying boats launched an attack on a mock enemy warship located about 100 kilometers away. The ministry stated that both Moskit supersonic cruise missiles successfully hit the designated target in the Sea of Japan.

Moskit missiles have the capability to carry conventional or nuclear warheads. Japan protests the military exercises of Russian warships around the Kuril Islands, which are under Russian control, and over which Japan claims sovereignty on some of them. Last year, Russia also launched several missiles from a submarine during an exercise in the Sea of Japan.
