Russia has taken over the rotating presidency of the Security Council
Russia has assumed the rotating presidency of the United Nations Security Council despite Ukraine’s request to council members to prevent this move
The United States has said it cannot prevent Russia, a permanent member of the council, from presiding over it
The United States also stated that it expects the Russian delegation to act professionally in this regard
Each of the 15 members of the council takes on the presidency of this body for one month on a rotating basis
The last time Russia assumed the presidency of the Security Council was in February 2022, after which it launched a large-scale invasion of Ukraine
It is said that this means the United Nations Security Council is being led by a country whose president, Vladimir Putin, has an international arrest warrant issued against him for committing war crimes
This warrant was issued last month by the International Criminal Court, which is not an entity affiliated with the United Nations, against Putin
Yesterday, the Security Council discussed Russia’s plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus
