The Russian ambassador in Baghdad: We will not hand over Bashar al-Assad

Following the official request by the head of the Syrian government to hand over the former president of this country, the Russian ambassador in Baghdad firmly stated that Assad has not violated any condition of his asylum and handing him over to Damascus is not on Moscow’s agenda.

Alperos Kutrashev, the Russian ambassador in Baghdad, announced in a media interview that one of the conditions for Bashar al-Assad’s residence in Moscow is his complete abstention from any media and political activities, and so far, no violations have been observed from him.

He emphasized that handing over Bashar al-Assad holds no significance for Moscow, highlighting that Russia remains committed to the granted asylum principles.

Kutrashev also said that the asylum for Bashar al-Assad and his family has been issued based on direct orders from Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, and the decision regarding this matter will not change.
