Russia’s Concern Over the Consequences of Receiving Iranian Ballistic Missiles

According to a report by the Financial Times based on evaluations by Western officials, Russia has hesitated to purchase ballistic missiles from the Islamic Republic due to concerns that Ukraine’s allies might respond by providing long-range missiles to Kyiv.

Iran has so far sent hundreds of armed drones to Russia, which have been used to attack Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. Western capitals believe Tehran is ready for further military cooperation with Moscow.

However, despite Russia being under pressure due to the limited capacity of its weapons arsenal, it has so far refrained from purchasing Iran’s long-range ballistic missiles, which fly faster than the speed of sound and can carry larger explosive payloads.
