Saber Khodamoradi received a sentence of imprisonment and flogging

In the continued increase of pressure by the Islamic Republic on Sunni clerics in Iran, it was reported on Tuesday, May 2nd, that Mamosta Saber Khodamoradi, the Friday prayer leader of Khoq Township in Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, received a sentence of imprisonment and flogging.

According to the human rights organization Hengaw, the Special Clerical Court in Hamedan sentenced this Sunni Kurdish religious scholar to 7 months of discretionary imprisonment and 72 lashes. The intelligence agency also threatened Mr. Khodamoradi that if he continues his criticisms in the mosque, his sentence will be executed immediately.

According to this report, the Saqqez intelligence agency also intends to demolish the Mahvi Library and Mosque in this city, which were built by benefactors and Sunni residents. To this end, they have increased pressure on Saber Khodamoradi, who is trying to prevent the demolition of the aforementioned mosque.

On January 22, 2023, Saber Khodamoradi was summoned for the second time to the Special Clerical Court in Hamedan, parallel to the public protests in the city of Saqqez.
