The Sahand ship sank

During the capsizing of the Sahand naval vessel of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Navy, at least one military personnel was killed and has been buried in Shush city, Khuzestan province.

Naval Captain Saeed Khosravipour was a member of the Navy, but it is unclear in which of the two incidents that happened to the Sahand vessel on different days he was killed.

Limited information has been provided about this incident and its details.

The Sahand ship capsized on July 8th in Bandar Abbas, but two days later, Iranian media reported that the straps keeping the vessel balanced broke, and this time, the Sahand completely sank underwater.

This vessel, which Iran claims to be the most advanced domestically-built military ship, became operational in the Iranian Navy in 2018 and had participated in the Russian Navy Day ceremony in Saint Petersburg and a joint military exercise with this country.

The sinking of the Sahand is the fourth incident involving Iranian Navy vessels since 2017.
