Salehi: Exiting the NPT is under the leadership’s authority, not Parliament’s

Ali Akbar Salehi, the former Iranian Foreign Minister, in response to discussions about Iran exiting the NPT due to the activation of the snapback mechanism, stated that the decision to exit the NPT is solely within the leadership’s authority, and actions like proposing an exit in Parliament could complicate our diplomatic issues.

The former head of the Atomic Energy Organization said that such statements, due to Iran’s unique position in the unjust international arena, are exploited by ill-wishers and multiply our diplomatic problems.

On Thursday, following the activation of the snapback mechanism by three European countries, Hajji Deligani, the Deputy Chairman of the Article 90 Commission of Parliament, announced the beginning of drafting a two-urgency plan for a complete exit from the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and its Additional Protocol.
