Sanctioning companies active in China, Turkey, and the UAE on charges of supporting Iranian military forces
The U.S. government added 29 entities related to the Islamic Republic of Iran to its sanctions list on Thursday.
These companies are located in China, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates, and among them are several subsidiaries of an American chip-making company that have been sanctioned on charges of supporting the military forces of the Islamic Republic and proxy groups.
The U.S. Department of Commerce has also placed two subsidiaries of the American company Aero Electronics, which are based in China and Hong Kong, on this list.
The inclusion of American companies in this list is considered an unprecedented move, and analysts have viewed it as part of increasing pressure on Tehran.
The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that the recent sanctions were imposed after the discovery of American-made electronic components in the wreckage of drones used by the Islamic Republic’s proxy forces since 2017, as well as in Hamas drones.
