Saudi Arabia’s Move to Join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization
The Saudi Arabian Council of Ministers approved a bill on Wednesday to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, even as Riyadh is establishing long-term cooperation with China despite U.S. security concerns.
The official Saudi Press Agency announced that the country has approved a bill to join the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as a dialogue partner.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is a political and security alliance of countries mainly in the Eurasian region, including China, India, and Russia. This organization was founded in 2001 by Russia, China, and former Soviet countries in Central Asia, and later expanded with the inclusion of India and Pakistan to play a more effective role in the region in contrast to the influence of Western countries.
