Saudi technical team went to Tehran to reopen embassy

A Saudi Arabian diplomatic delegation traveled to Tehran on Saturday, April 8th, to explore the possibilities of reopening the embassy in Tehran.

This visit took place shortly after the meeting of the foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia in China.

Nasser bin Awad Al-Ghanoum led the Saudi delegation on the trip to Tehran. The foreign ministers of the two countries stated in a joint declaration two days before this delegation’s trip to Tehran that they would soon reopen their embassies in Riyadh and Tehran.

Relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia have been tense and completely severed since 2016 following an attack by a group of government supporters on the Saudi embassy in Tehran.

Tehran and Riyadh have recently resumed their relations after nearly seven years of severed diplomatic ties.
