Tavanir: Save gas to prevent power outages
The Tavanir Company has warned that if Iranian citizens do not save gas, there will be power outages in the winter.
In a statement released by this subsidiary of the Ministry of Energy on Monday, July 31st, it is stated that most of the country’s electricity is produced through gas fuel in thermal power plants, and therefore, electricity and gas consumption should be managed carefully.
This summer, Iran faced a 20,000-megawatt electricity deficit, and it is expected that the winter gas deficit in the country will reach at least 250 million cubic meters per day.
Due to a lack of investment in solar and wind energy and a significant drop in hydroelectric power production caused by drought, Iran is almost entirely reliant on thermal power plants that operate on fuel oil and diesel.
The severe winter gas shortage will force the government to either consume large amounts of polluting fuel oil and diesel in power plants or halt the operation of some electric power plants.
