Scandal in Brazil: Robinho arrested for sexual assault

Former Brazilian national football team player Robinho has been arrested to serve a 9-year prison sentence for sexual assault charges.

Two years ago, he was convicted in Italy for his involvement in the gang rape of an Albanian woman at a nightclub in Milan in 2013.

Robinho, who is 40 years old, was arrested in his apartment in the city of Santos, which is also his hometown.

After Italy’s request for his extradition was unsuccessful, the Italian government requested that Mr. Robinho serve his sentence in Brazil.

On Wednesday, a court in Brazil confirmed this decision and ruled that he must serve his sentence in prison instead of under house arrest.

On Thursday, a Brazilian Supreme Court judge rejected the request to halt his arrest.
