The Scarcity of Medicine in Iran

Domestic media have reported that medications such as antibiotics, acetaminophen, and serum have become scarce or unavailable in at least 30 provinces of the country.

The head of the Parliament’s Health Commission has stated that the shortage of raw materials, debts owed to pharmaceutical companies, increased transportation costs, and trade tariffs are among the reasons for the shortage of these drugs in the country’s pharmacies.

For the past 50 years, Iran has been one of the largest producers of antibiotics and serum in the world.
