Scholz: Putin neither threatened me personally nor Germany

Olaf Scholz, the Chancellor of Germany, clarified in an interview with the German publication Bild that in his contacts and conversations with Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, no threats were made against him or Germany.

Scholz stated that these discussions were primarily an exchange of completely different positions and viewpoints. He added in this context that during our phone calls, our very different perspectives regarding the war in Ukraine were completely evident and clear.

The statements of the German Chancellor are being published while Boris Johnson, the former British Prime Minister, recently said in an interview with the BBC World Service that Putin had threatened him with a missile attack in a call in February 2022.

Johnson, at the same time, emphasized that he considered Putin’s words as a rhetorical tool to exert pressure. A spokesperson for Putin called Johnson’s explanations false and clarified that Putin never made such a threat.
