Sepideh Gholian Deprived of Phone Calls in Evin Prison

Sepideh Gholian has been deprived of phone calls in Evin Prison.

BBC Persian has learned that Sepideh Gholian has been deprived of phone calls in Evin Prison.

A day before this deprivation, Narges Mohammadi, a human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate who is Gholian’s cellmate, used her card to make a call outside of Evin Prison.

In this phone call, Ms. Mohammadi reacted to the new plan to counter women who refuse to comply with mandatory hijab, urging women in Iran not to underestimate their power of storytelling and to narrate the encounters they face over compulsory hijab.

Ms. Mohammadi also reported that Dina Ghalibaf, a journalist and student, entered the women’s ward with bruises on her body.

Dina Ghalibaf was arrested after recounting the encounter with officers due to not wearing mandatory hijab.

Narges Mohammadi has been deprived of phone calls for five months and was not even allowed to make a phone call to her family when her father passed away.
