Sergey Ryabkov: We are in constant contact with Iran regarding the Middle East situation
As tensions rise between Iran and Israel, Russian and German officials on Thursday urged Middle Eastern countries to show restraint
Sergey Ryabkov, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, told reporters on this day that Russia is asking all parties in the Middle East to exercise restraint to prevent the region from descending into crisis and chaos
He added that the Russian side is in constant contact with Iranian partners about the Middle East situation following Israel’s attack on the Iranian consulate in Syria
The situation in the region has been on high alert for potential retaliatory attacks by Iran since April 2, when warplanes attributed to Israel bombed the Iranian diplomatic complex in Syria
Mr. Peskov simultaneously considered the attack attributed to Israel on the Iranian consulate in Damascus a violation of all international laws
At the same time, Russia has asked its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to the Middle East
