Shima Babai Wins Women's Rights Award at Geneva Summit

Shima Babai won the Women’s Rights Award at the Geneva Summit

The Women’s Rights Award at the Geneva Summit for Democracy and Human Rights was awarded to Shima Babai, a human rights activist.

In response to receiving this award, Ms. Babai wrote in a Twitter message that she considers this award to belong to the brave Iranians who are engaged in a daily struggle to gain their freedom and human rights against a government that is anti-women, anti-life, and anti-freedom, and who will not stop their efforts until they achieve their goal, which has been admired by people worldwide.

Ebrahim Babai, the father of Shima Babai and a human rights activist who was a victim of the Iran-Iraq war, disappeared in early January 2022 in the city of Maku while attempting to leave the country.

In March 2023, Amnesty International issued a statement highlighting the 15 months since the enforced disappearance of Ebrahim Babai, a political activist, and called on the Islamic Republic to clarify this matter.
