Shocking statistics about the detainees of the recent protests: over 80,000 people have been pardoned.
Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the head of the judiciary in Iran, has stated that the number of people pardoned after being arrested during the recent protests has exceeded eighty thousand.
This is the first time a senior official of the Iranian government has acknowledged the shocking extent of governmental suppression against protesters by providing statistics on those pardoned.
According to an interview conducted by the official website of Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Iranian government, with the head of the judiciary, the number of those who have been pardoned, including those arrested in riots and otherwise, those whose sentences were reduced, and those who received leniency, has exceeded eighty thousand.
According to human rights organizations, around 500 people were killed during these widespread protests. This is in addition to hundreds who suffered severe injuries, including eye injuries, caused by gunfire from government-affiliated forces or being struck with batons.
