Sinking of Boat Carrying Refugees

Capsizing of a boat carrying refugees

Following the capsizing of a small boat carrying refugees that intended to reach the English Channel in northern France, a 7-year-old girl lost her life.

Officials have stated that this boat was carrying 16 refugees when it sank a few kilometers off the coast of Dunkirk.

Local authorities have said in a statement that the boat was not appropriately sized to carry so many refugees.

The parents of this girl, who were on the boat with their three other children, were transferred to a hospital in Dunkirk.

This is the third deadly incident this year involving refugees attempting to cross the English Channel.
