The sister of the North Korean leader requests a meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister.
Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of the North Korean leader, says that Fumio Kishida, the Japanese Prime Minister, has requested a meeting with Kim Jong Un.
She said that Mr. Kishida has asked for this meeting to be held as soon as possible.
However, she stated that holding this meeting would be difficult without a change in Tokyo’s policies towards North Korea.
In response to these statements, the Japanese Prime Minister said he is not aware of such a meeting request.
Nevertheless, Mr. Kishida emphasized that he has always been in favor of holding talks at the leadership level of both countries to resolve tensions.
The Japanese Prime Minister said he is willing to discuss resolving issues between the two countries, including the abduction of Japanese citizens by North Korea in the 1970s and 1980s.
The last time a high-ranking Japanese official met with the North Korean leader was Junichiro Koizumi in 2002.
