The spokesperson of the Guardian Council announced a reduction in the military service period to 14 months.
Hadi Tahan Nazif, the spokesperson of the Guardian Council, reported the reduction in military service.
He stated that the decision to reduce the military service period was made through amendments and in accordance with Article 4 of the Public Service Law, and it was not deemed contrary to religious and constitutional standards within the framework of the measures of the Armed Forces General Staff.
As a result, the military service period will be reduced by three months, including the training period, from 17 months to 14 months.
Previously, the Islamic Consultative Assembly had approved the bill to reduce military service in coordination with the Armed Forces General Staff and in line with the Seventh Development Plan. It was awaiting the opinion of the Guardian Council. In recent years, some politicians and representatives in the Islamic Consultative Assembly had expressed the necessity of ending compulsory military service in Iran and making joining the armed forces voluntary.
