The commencement of operations for three Iranian missions in Saudi Arabia
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic announced on Monday, May 1st, that three official Iranian missions have begun their operations in Saudi Arabia.
According to Nasser Kanaani, the embassy in Riyadh, the consulate general in Jeddah, and the permanent mission of Iran to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah have initiated their activities in Saudi Arabia as the first step.
According to the ISNA news agency, in a press conference in Tehran, he expressed optimism and hope that the embassies of both countries would reach full operational status within the set timeframe.
In the agreement to restore relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, signed on March 10th last year after eight years of crisis between Tehran and Riyadh, with China’s mediation in Beijing, it was stated that the embassies and consulates of the two countries would reopen within two months.
Last month, delegations from the foreign ministries of Iran and Saudi Arabia visited each other’s capitals to inspect their embassies and consulates, which had been closed since the severance of relations.
Last week, Iran also agreed to Saudi Arabia’s proposal to establish three air flights between the two countries at the current time.
