Start of the demolition of Shiraz’s historic fabric by order of Ebrahim Raisi
As the demolition of another part of Shiraz’s historic fabric becomes serious and pressure on residents of this area for forced relocation increases, experts warn about the irreparable cultural and historical consequences of this issue.
On Monday, February 5, Shargh newspaper reported, quoting Mohammad Mehdi Kalantari, head of the campaign to preserve Shiraz’s historic fabric, that the plan to demolish Shiraz’s historic fabric, which had been halted for several years, was resumed after Ebrahim Raisi’s provincial trip in the fall.
Gholamhossein Memarian, a university professor, also announced the countdown has begun for the demolition of many historic houses in the coming days, stating that residents of this area have been given a few days to leave their homes and warned that if they do not vacate, their water, electricity, and gas will be cut off.
Mr. Memarian referred to this action as an unforgivable mistake and a great betrayal to Iran’s history and culture.
