Statement by 289 political activists: We demand the establishment of the Republic of Iran
289 political activists, mostly outside the country, have announced their commitment to a republican government in Iran’s future in a statement. These individuals have called for the establishment of the Republic of Iran.
These activists have declared their commitment to rights they call fundamental in a ten-point document. They have included among these points freedom, equal human rights, territorial integrity, independence, democracy, republicanism, and justice.
Among the signatories of this statement are Mansoureh Shojaee, Kourosh Zaim, Yervand Abrahamian, and Firouzeh Banisadr.
In this statement, they have written that the current movement with the slogan ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ is a continuation of the Iranian nation’s efforts in the Constitutional Revolution, the nationalization of the oil industry, and the 1979 Revolution.
Inside Iran, nearly 20 independent professional and civil organizations have also published a charter of minimal demands. The signing entities considered the realization of these demands as the first decrees and the result of the fundamental protests of the Iranian people.
