Statement by 96 political activists regarding the morality police: These actions are illegal and inhumane

A group of civil and political activists in Iran, in a statement protesting the suppression of women and the return of the morality police to the streets, condemned the government’s military actions against women.

The ninety-six signatories of this statement, some of whom are in prison, have described the government’s actions as illegal, inhumane, and misogynistic, emphasizing that Iranian women and men will not abandon their efforts to free society from the grip of tyranny and oppression.

The statement continues, noting that with the increasing likelihood of war, and in a situation where the government’s mismanagement and systemic corruption have turned people’s lives into black holes of misery, anxiety, uncertainty, and continuous disorder, and while Iranian society seeks justice for the young protesters who were killed, the government still beats the drum of war against the people in the streets.

Sediqeh Vasmaghi, Narges Mohammadi, Sepideh Gholian, Dayeh Sharifeh Hossein Panahi, Shahnaz Akmali, Faezeh Hashemi, Mostafa Tajzadeh, and Keyvan Samimi are among the signatories of this statement.

Yesterday, the mothers of Laleh Park, whose children died in the 2009 protests, also emphasized in a statement that despite the intensified suppression by the government, the achievements of the ‘Women, Life, Freedom’ protests are irreversible.

Violent confrontations with women in Iran have resumed with the return of the morality police to the streets, starting from Saturday, April 14, under the name ‘Noor Plan’.
