Statement from Ayatollah Montazeri’s office regarding recent events: We ask the religious authorities to express their opinions.
Ahmad Montazeri, the son of the late Ayatollah Montazeri, has written in a statement about the recent conditions in the country, saying there has been much discussion about how we ended up in this situation, and everyone is fully aware of it. Now is the time to collaborate on solving the problem, and anyone who cares about this country and its freedom and prosperity, and has the ability to take action to resolve the current crisis, should not hesitate.
In this statement, which was released with the signature of Ayatollah Montazeri’s office, it is stated that the shedding of even one person’s blood is so significant that the divine word and the Holy Quran have said: ‘Whoever kills a soul unless for a soul or for corruption [done] in the land – it is as if he had slain mankind entirely. And whoever saves one – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely.’ The bloody tragedies that have occurred in many parts of Iran, especially in Baluchistan, Izeh, and Kurdistan, are deeply regrettable and shameful.
The statement also mentions that the situation has reached a point where when some of those esteemed religious authorities express their opinions and offer solutions to end the crisis in society, they are attacked by those who act independently and do not like those words, and they have no fear of insulting and accusing those dear figures. We humbly ask the esteemed religious authorities to express their opinions on current affairs where religion and the country are in serious danger.
Montazeri, stating that opportunities pass like clouds and if no fundamental action is taken, we will inevitably face a civil war, mentioned in the statement that if the ruling body of the Islamic Republic of Iran is truly seeking a fundamental solution, they must authorize a referendum according to the constitution because this is the main demand of the noble people of Iran. If this important step is taken, undoubtedly this significant and historic decision will remain in the records of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s governance as a positive and influential model, and the grateful people of Iran will always be thankful in the present and future.
