The statement from the Assembly of Teachers of the Qom Seminary: Executing the death sentence will inflame the protests further
The statement from the Assembly of Teachers and Researchers of the Qom Seminary about the execution of a protester, especially under circumstances that require the government to listen to the people’s protests and take steps to calm the situation, has shocked a large part of society, particularly intellectuals and the country’s well-wishers, and has further wounded the public conscience. Undoubtedly, in a situation where, due to poverty, inflation, misery, and inefficiency in managing the country, the majority of people are dissatisfied and protesting, issuing and executing the death sentence will further inflame the protests.
Regardless of the legal and jurisprudential issues present in the trial process and the sudden issuance and execution of this sentence, fundamentally, execution is not a proper solution for ensuring security and reducing unrest, because it adds to the anger and resentment of society and demonstrates a lack of awareness of the public sentiment and the authorities’ disregard for the country’s interests. Moreover, the main problem is that the judicial process of these trials has not been able to convince public opinion.
