Statement of the Tehran Province Journalists Association regarding the arrest of several journalists

From a professional standpoint, covering public or limited protests is no different from covering an earthquake, a flood, the inauguration of a dam or factory, publishing divorce statistics, or reporting a murder incident.

As a consequence of recent events, unfortunately, some of our colleagues have been arrested or summoned while they were precisely carrying out their professional duties. They were directly tasked by their media managers to prepare news and reports about the death of Ms. Mahsa Amini and the related reactions, meaning they were doing their professional work.

The association earnestly demands that our colleagues be released as soon as possible and that they be allowed to carry out their duties.

According to the information received by the association, the names of journalists who have been arrested or summoned so far are as follows:

Niloufar Hamedi, Rouhollah Nakhaei, Fatemeh Rajabi, Alireza Khoshbakht, Mojtaba Rahimi, Vida Rabbani, Elahe Mohammadi, Elnaz Mohammadi, Hamed Shafiei
