Statistics Center refrains from announcing April inflation rate

The Statistics Center did not announce the April 2023 inflation rate, leaving the consumer price index hidden from experts and the public for the second consecutive month.

For the past 5 years, the Statistics Center of Iran had been publishing the consumer price index for the previous month on the first day of the new month, showing how the household consumption basket prices had changed.

This trend continued until the first day of February 2023, when the Statistics Center of Iran released the consumer price index for January, a report indicating that the thirteenth government was setting a new record in inflation, especially in the food and beverage sector.

With the start of the new year and while it was expected that the March 2023 inflation rate would be announced, the Statistics Center refrained from publishing this report and stated that due to economic changes, it is in the process of changing the base year from 2016 to 2021.

Changing the base year is a common action with specific principles, and it is not the first time this has been experienced in the country.
