Iraq and the United States’ strong reaction to Iran’s attacks on the western neighbor’s soil
While Iran’s attacks on various regions in Iraqi Kurdistan have occurred alongside attacks and crackdowns in Iranian Kurdistan, the fact that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards are conducting military operations on Iraqi soil in this situation is questionable. Carrying out two parallel programs on both sides of the borders simultaneously is a serious risk that has been accepted without considering the consequences.
While General Qaani, in his recent visit, had threatened Iraqi officials that Iranian forces would be widely deployed to eliminate the Kurds, the operations on Iraqi soil were intensified without considering their reaction.
Both the Iraqi government and the U.S. government have condemned these recent developments and the violation of Iraq’s sovereignty. Iran has accepted the risk of these attacks under conditions that it should not compare its position to that of the Turkish government, which is carrying out similar attacks. Iran’s unfortunate internal situation and international conditions are very fragile.
