Sudden Disruption of Iran’s Power Transmission Line to Iraq
A day after Turkey began exporting electricity to Iraq, officials from Iraq’s Diyala province reported a sudden halt in electricity delivery from Iran.
Iraq’s official news agency reported on Tuesday, July 24, quoting government sources in Diyala province, that both of Iran’s power transmission lines to this region have been deactivated for unknown reasons, and the residents are facing widespread blackouts.
The report adds that the 250 megawatts of electricity supplied by Iran to Diyala has been stopped, while the region requires 900 megawatts of electricity due to the rising temperatures.
The two power transmission lines from Iran to Diyala have a total capacity of 550 megawatts, but until today, Iran was only delivering 250 megawatts to Diyala, and now that too has been halted.
