Suicide of Two More Doctors in Iran
Continuing the series of doctor suicides in Iran, Mohammad Reza Asadi, a board member of Tehran’s Medical Council, reported the suicide of a resident in Yazd.
This doctor wrote on the social network X on Sunday, July 24, 14, that the continuation of the domino effect of doctor suicides has now reached Yazd, where a pediatric resident at Shaheed Sadoughi Hospital in Yazd, and the mother of a young child, ended her life.
This news was reported while Amir Kabir Newsletter, which covers student-related news, reported on Saturday the suicide of a female medical student from Mashhad’s Islamic Azad University of Medical Sciences. It is said that this intern committed suicide at the university dormitory where she was studying and passed away.
Reza Laripour, spokesperson for the Iranian Medical Council, stated in May 2023 regarding the causes of the increase in suicides in the medical community that this phenomenon is multifaceted and complex. He told the media that the workload given to a resident is extremely high and the disparity between their earnings and the activities they perform is very significant.
