Iranian Ambassador Summoned to Italy’s Foreign Ministry for Criticism of Suppression

Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the ambassador of the Islamic Republic to criticize the suppression of protesters in the country.

According to the French news agency, Antonio Tajani, Italy’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, in a meeting with Mohammad Reza Sabouri, the new ambassador of the Islamic Republic in Rome, described the Iranian government’s treatment of protesters as unacceptable.

However, according to Mr. Tajani, the Italian government seeks to maintain diplomacy with Iran and continue dialogues, especially concerning the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

Antonio Tajani had previously called the suppression of protesters disgraceful.

He had also called for a halt to executions in Iran.
