Summons of Civil Activist Reza Khandan by the Judiciary

Summoning of Reza Khandan, civil activist, by the judiciary

Reza Khandan, a civil activist and husband of Nasrin Sotoudeh, an Iranian human rights lawyer and activist, has been summoned by the judiciary to serve his prison sentence.

Mr. Khandan, along with Farhad Meysami, a doctor and civil activist, was sentenced to six years in prison on January 22, 2019, but the execution of this sentence had been postponed until now.

Now, a few days after Meysami’s release, Mr. Khandan has been summoned to prison to serve his sentence.

Reza Khandan and Farhad Meysami were arrested and tried for protesting against mandatory hijab, and both were sentenced to five years for collusion against national security and one year for propaganda against the regime.

Mr. Khandan’s summons comes a few days after his wife’s interview with CNN about the protests in Iran.

In this television interview, Nasrin Sotoudeh emphasized that despite the repression, the people of Iran still demand a referendum and a change in the country’s governing system.
