Support for Tehran University of Art Students Against Mandatory Hijab
A group of activists from the New Women’s Liberation Movement and supporters of the Women’s Life Freedom Revolution released a statement on Sunday, June 25th, in support of the resistance of Tehran University of Art students against the mandatory hijab.
The statement reads that the students of the University of Art, through their protest sit-in and resistance against oppressive forces, prevented the misogynistic Islamic government from encroaching on the values of the ongoing revolution, which brings about women’s liberation, life, and freedom.
The signatories of this statement said that the students demonstrated that the university is a bastion of freedom and equality, a base for modernism and secularism, and remains the hotbed of the ongoing revolution, keeping the flag of protest against mandatory hijab raised with full force.
The statement also warned the government that implementing hijab and chastity plans in universities will lead to an escalation and deepening of the struggle between students and the entirety of society against the Islamic Republic with revolutionary intensity.
