Swiss Ambassador’s Visit with a Chador in Qom

The presence of the Swiss ambassador in Qom wearing a chador has angered many critics of the Iranian government on social media.

Eden Olivieri Lozano is the Swiss ambassador, representing a country that acts as the protector of Washington’s interests in Tehran due to the lack of diplomatic relations between Iran and the USA.

Ms. Lozano traveled to Qom and visited the shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh in this city.

Iranian news agencies cited visiting various parts of the Hazrat Masoumeh shrine and getting acquainted with Islamic culture and art as reasons for the Swiss ambassador’s presence in Qom.

Her presence with a chador alongside a cleric has sparked reactions and criticism from many users.

In response to these reactions, the Swiss Foreign Ministry stated that their ambassador adhered to the dress protocol for visiting a religious site. The ministry also mentioned that while interfaith exchanges are very important, Switzerland has clearly and repeatedly expressed its stance on human rights violations in Iran.
