Syria Rejoins the Arab League

Syria rejoined the Arab League

Foreign ministers of the Arab League member countries agreed to reactivate Damascus’s membership after 12 years since Syria’s expulsion from the league.

Jamal Rushdi, the spokesperson for the Arab League, announced on Sunday, May 7, that this decision was made at a closed-door meeting of the foreign ministers at the league’s headquarters in Cairo.

Syria’s membership in the Arab League was suspended at the start of the country’s civil war, and many Arab countries withdrew their representatives from Damascus.

According to reports, the agreement for Syria’s immediate return to the Arab League was made with certain conditions, but these conditions have not been officially announced.

The vote by the foreign ministers regarding Syria’s return to the Arab League took place after months of discussions among the league’s members.
