Taliban Arrests Three Journalists in Khost for Broadcasting Music and Calling Women

The Taliban arrested three journalists on charges of broadcasting music and making phone calls to women in Khost.

The Afghanistan Journalists Center says three local journalists in Khost province in the east of the country have been arrested by the Taliban’s Department for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice on charges of broadcasting music and making phone calls to female listeners.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 25, this center, citing local sources, stated that Ismail Saadat, a journalist for Radio Naz, Wahidullah Masoom, a journalist for Radio Iqra, and Ehsanullah Tasal, a journalist for Radio Voice of the People, were summoned to the Taliban’s Department for the Promotion of Virtue in Khost province on Monday this week and were subsequently arrested.

The statement mentioned that the managers of these radios had been summoned, and these three journalists went on behalf of their managers and were arrested. Taliban officials have not yet officially commented on the arrest of these journalists.
