Taliban’s Head of Access to Information Receives Twitter’s Blue Checkmark
A Taliban official has managed to obtain the new blue checkmark for his Twitter account by paying a monthly fee.
Hedayatullah Hedayat is the Head of Access to Information at the Taliban’s Ministry of Information and Culture.
About a month ago, Elon Musk, the principal owner of Twitter, announced that individuals who wish to have the blue checkmark next to their Twitter username must pay $8 monthly, although this amount will vary by country.
So far, none of the official Taliban spokespersons have verified accounts.
Meanwhile, Meta, formerly known as Facebook and led by Mark Zuckerberg, which owns Instagram and Facebook, has removed the accounts of Bakhtar News Agency and Afghanistan’s National Radio and Television, controlled by the Taliban, from Facebook and Instagram.
In response to questions from the BBC on July 22, 2022, a Meta spokesperson said that they remove accounts operated by or on behalf of the Taliban, and praising, supporting, and representing them is prohibited.
