Tehran City Council Member: Two Thousand Trees Relocated for Basij Development Project

A member of Tehran City Council says two thousand trees were relocated for the Basij development project.

Naser Amani, a member of Tehran City Council, says two thousand trees have been relocated in line with the implementation of the Basij development project in District 14.

Mr. Amani, on Sunday, May 9, stated that this action was carried out by the contractor and told Hamshahri Online that a significant number of trees were also relocated on the Sayad Shirazi Highway for the construction of an underpass.

He went on to criticize the Tehran Municipality, asking if there is no department within the municipality to provide necessary oversight on this matter.

The reduction of green spaces in the capital is occurring while Tehran is one of the cities struggling with the highest air pollution, and in recent years, more news about tree cutting and relocation has been published than the creation of green spaces.

On the other hand, the revelation by the City Council member about thousands of other trees has been published while in recent days, severe criticisms have been directed against Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, in Iranian media and virtual spaces.
