Tehran City Council Spokesperson Claims No Trees Were Cut for Qeytarieh Mosque Construction

The claim of the Tehran City Council spokesperson: No trees have been cut down for the construction of the Gheytarieh Mosque.

Alireza Nadali, the spokesperson for the Islamic City Council of Tehran, stated that no trees have been cut down in the plan to build the Gheytarieh Park Mosque, and said that local benefactors have been providing the financial costs for the construction of this mosque for a long time.

He added that the location chosen for the mosque is almost in a blind spot with no use, where there are a few young trees and about four old trees, and with the sensitivity and order of the municipality, no trees were cut down at this point; instead, the contractor’s plan was changed slightly so that no trees would be cut.

This member of the Tehran City Council also stated regarding the funding for the construction of this mosque that some claimed the Tehran Municipality is the financial provider for this mosque, but all construction costs have been covered by benefactors and the municipality has only provided the land.

He mentioned that during various periods of urban management, 43 mosques have been built in regional parks, and said that in any case, building mosques in parks completes the cultural spaces for citizens, but some, with the help of foreign media, are questioning this cultural project.

According to Nadali, during yesterday’s visit accompanied by the official in charge of mosque affairs, it was confirmed that no trees have been cut down for the construction of the mosque, and we will certainly review this issue thoroughly in the Cultural, Social, and Religious Minorities Commission of the council, which I am responsible for.
