Tehran Deputy Mayor: Burial Site of 1980s Victims Converted into Parking Lot

Tehran Municipality Deputy: The burial site of the 1980s victims has been turned into a parking lot

The deputy of Tehran Municipality says that this organization has converted section 41 of Behesht Zahra, which is the burial site of several executed members of political groups opposing the Islamic Republic in the early 1980s, into a parking lot.

Davood Goudarzi stated on Tuesday, August 18, that section 41 was just left as it was, and we needed a parking lot, so we obtained permission from the authorities and converted it into a parking lot.

Section 41 in Behesht Zahra is an area almost leveled with the ground, which is the burial site of an unknown number of executed members of various political groups such as Forqan, the People’s Mojahedin Organization, military and civilian participants in the Nojeh coup, wealthy individuals accused of what was called collecting illicit wealth or spreading corruption on earth, and affluent merchants with political leanings opposing the government.

This section is monitored and supervised around the clock with cameras and human forces. Some refer to it as the section of the executed, while others call it the cursed land, but among Behesht Zahra officials, it is also known by another name: the burnt section.
