The Tehran Municipality confirms the construction of a mosque in Qeytarieh Park, but no trees will be cut down.
Majid Ghafoori Roozbehani, regarding the construction of a mosque in a part of Qeytarieh Park, said that Qeytarieh is one of the neighborhoods facing a shortage of religious facilities, including mosques, and we have received numerous written requests from the devout residents of this neighborhood for the construction of a mosque.
He continued that since the highest authority for approving the construction of mosques in Tehran is the Council for the Organization, Development, and Expansion of Mosques, chaired by the Mayor of Tehran, some time ago, a benefactor from Qeytarieh approached us, requesting land allocation for the construction of a mosque in this neighborhood. This matter was discussed in the Council for the Organization, Development, and Expansion of Mosques, and after expert evaluations, land with a suitable location in the northeast corner of Qeytarieh Park was allocated for the mosque’s construction.
The assistant to the Mayor of Tehran emphasized that this land is a very suitable location for building a mosque because it is at least one kilometer away from other religious sites and mosques, allowing both park-goers and neighborhood residents to benefit from its religious and cultural services. Therefore, this mosque will serve not only locally but also regionally.
Ghafoori, emphasizing that no trees have been cut down or relocated in Qeytarieh Park so far, said the park’s area is 122,000 square meters, and about 800 square meters of it is allocated for the mosque’s construction, meaning the mosque’s footprint will be less than one percent of the park. In the initial plan for the mosque, the relocation of about four trees was considered, but with Dr. Zakani’s directive, it was decided that this plan would be revised, and in the new plan, no trees will be relocated.
