Tehran to Get a New Cemetery

Alireza Zakani, the mayor of Tehran, announced that the development of cemeteries has been prioritized by the Tehran municipality for the new year.

Zakani stated that Behesht Zahra spans 590 hectares, and the Martyrs’ Section holds the highest number of martyrs worldwide. We are paying special attention to Behesht Zahra, and its renovation and reconstruction are on the agenda.

On the other hand, we are considering expanding and making this area accessible. The Tehran mayor added that site selection for 100 hectares has been conducted in the west and east of Tehran, and negotiations for purchase have begun to prevent residents of west Tehran from having to travel to the south of the city.

Zakani said the municipality intends to support the economy of religious shrines by burying the deceased in their premises. We will also assist the city’s shrines and have started cooperation with the Endowments Organization to enable burials in these shrines.

Tehran requires 26,000 burial sites annually, and 60 cemeteries in Tehran have completely changed their function.
