The Center for Human Rights Defenders: Poisonings are meant to confine women and girls to their homes
The Center for Human Rights Defenders has addressed the issue of serial poisonings of students in Iran in a letter to the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. The letter references the death of Mahsa Amini and the subsequent protests, stating that following these events, it seems that to create fear among families, particularly young girls, there have been mass poisonings of many students in girls’ high schools and technical schools. This has reached a point where some families are afraid to send their children to school. The letter likens this behavior to that of the Taliban in Afghanistan and mentions that the dissatisfaction of the leaders of the Islamic Republic with young girls protesting against mandatory hijab has led the people of Iran to believe that the repetition of such incidents is ultimately aimed at confining women and girls to their homes. The poisoning of students in mainly girls’ schools continues city by city and day by day, and in the latest cases, it has reached Tehran, Kermanshah, and Ardabil.
