The Chief Justice of Iran should have dealt with the Andisheh Pouya journalist due to inappropriate hijab

The head of Iran’s Supreme Court said action should have been taken against the Andisheh Pouya journalist due to improper hijab

Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, the head of the Supreme Court, criticized Masoud Pezeshkian, saying action should have been taken against the Andisheh Pouya journalist at yesterday’s press conference with the Iranian president due to improper hijab

He made these remarks today, September 18, in response to Masoud Pezeshkian’s press conference yesterday

Mr. Pezeshkian, in that conference, responded to Maryam Shabani, a journalist from Andisheh Pouya magazine, who said she took shortcuts and back alleys to avoid the morality patrol, saying the morality patrol still causes trouble

Ms. Shabani replied that yes, they still exist, and Mr. Pezeshkian said he would follow up to ensure they do not cause trouble

Now, the head of the Supreme Court, in the presence of judges and the representative of the Attorney General, says that if action is to be taken against the morality patrol, action should also be taken against the improper hijab of that individual, and values should not be undermined

On the second anniversary of the death of Mahsa Zhina Amini, which occurred in the custody of Tehran’s morality patrol and led to nationwide protests in 2022, one of the protesters’ demands was opposition to mandatory hijab, which continues to this day
