Boris Johnson has told his allies that he will run for the leadership of the Conservatives and return to Number 10 Downing Street. Now, Rishi Sunak, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer, who made headlines by pressuring Boris to resign following his unprecedented and historical scandals and was Liz Truss’s rival for Conservative leadership, is the frontrunner to become Prime Minister. Boris Johnson and Penny Mordaunt, a prominent Conservative figure in the House of Commons, are the second and third contenders. Britain will know its new Prime Minister within a week at most. The economic and political crises have made the future Prime Minister’s job very difficult amidst intense pressure from other British parties to hold an early election.
